As a future elementary school teacher, I see blogging as a great way to keep in contact with parents (assuming I'm in a district where home computers are common). I could post weekly updates on what the class will be doing, including reminders for anything they might need to bring to school (pictures for a class project, show-and-tell, etc). I could also post information on upcoming field trips, and attach a downloadable copy of the permission slip!
We could also have a Class Blog that focuses more on work the class has done. Each student would contribute to it, and we could share it with people/classrooms in other cities, states, or countries. We could even have a BlogBuddy, like a PenPal, as a way to exchange information with other classrooms almost instantaneously!

I agree with you that blogging is a great way to keep in contact with parents. I just feel like in this area home computers are not as common as we are used to. Which is sad because every child should have access to a computer at home to help them further there educational needs. Also I think it would be helpful for parents to keep connected because we do not have time to call every single parent to let them know what is going on. The government needs to come up with some type of computer assistant program granting people that don't have the funds for a computer should be able to get one.
ReplyDeleteI found your idea of using blogs in keeping contact with parents very useful. As a future high school teacher I understand that parents will work, and not have time to meet with me. Many parents have work schedules that wont allow them to have enough time to go to their childrens school and find out whats going on. Your idea will remedy the situation. The weekly updates will inform every parent on whats going on and what will come. It will be a different method of communication that I think will have positive results. Having parents involve will promote students participation and best behavior. I think I will use it too. It is a great idea :)
